1 package yeast
3½ cups flour
1¼ cups milk
¼ cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 egg
¼ cup shortening
In mixer bowl combine yeast, 2¼ cups flour. Heat milk, sugar, shortening, and salt until warm. Stir until shortening is melted. Add egg. Beat at low speed for ½ minute, then 3 minutes on high speed. Stir in the rest of the flour at low speed. Should be a soft dough. Let rise in warm place 1½ – 2 hours (covered). Divide in half. Roll out.
Combine ½ cup sugar; 4 tbsp oleo, 2 tsp cinnamon. Spread on the dough. Roll into a log. Cut in circles and place in greased pan. Let rise 30-40 minutes. Bake 375° for 20-25 minutes. (Can use raisins, dried fruit, and nuts.) Drizzle with powdered sugar-water icing.
